The Audrey Gantous Memorial Holiday Stocking Project

The Christmas stocking project was started by one of our founding members, Audrey Gantous.

On March 10, 2009, Sheriff David Gee, Hillsborough County, Florida, presented an award to the Piecemaker’s Quilt Guild of Brandon for donating and filling over 300 stockings in the past 3 years. The award stated “Thank You For Your Commitment And Devotion To The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office And Our Community”.

In 2010, the Piecemakers Quilt Guild of Brandon donated over 100 filled stockings to the local Sheriff’s office to be handed out to children who will not have much for the holidays. Most holiday stockings were made by the Guild Members. Members were able to donate items to put in the stockings for the young children. The stockings were displayed at the December Holiday Dinner on the wall and a stuffing party was hosted after our dinner and program. We hope to be able to continue this great community outreach.

Audrey passed away September of 2014. It was her dream and wish to continue this wonderful work of dedication and support, so the Guild continues in her honor; naming it the “Audrey Gantous Memorial Christmas Stocking Project“. The guild members are asked to either make or purchase Christmas stockings and fill them with gifts appropiate for 5 to 12 year olds, and turn the filled stockings in at our November meeting. If the items in your stockings are gender or age specific, we ask that you pin a label stating that specifications.

Ideas for stocking stuffers: Please just make sure that there are no sharp items or edible items.  Kids love toy cars, trucks, appropriate action figures (no wrestling figures please 🙂 ), drawing activities, dolls, slinkies, silly putty, small toy items such as puzzles, games, playdough etc.  They also love stuffed animals, Barbie dolls, Legos, blocks and art supplies. Socks, mittens, tooth paste & brushes.
